A Chinese woman who gave birth to her second child with sperm donation has been at the center of controversy while her eldest child is battling leukemia.

Critics point out that even though they are in debt, they should give birth to children.

According to the Hong Kong media South China Morning Post, a 29-year-old woman identified only by her surname Chang, who lives in Zhengzhou, Henan Province, gave birth to her daughter early 31 weeks after giving birth on the 13th of last month.

A food delivery worker, she felt a stomachache while working and gave birth prematurely, and the baby weighed only 1.5 kilograms.

It was a sad story, but she is being criticized online.

This was because her first child, her son, was hospitalized for leukemia and gave birth to a second child through sperm donation.

According to Henan Broadcasting, a local media outlet, Jang is working as a delivery man, raising his sick son alone after his divorce in 2022.

The ex-husband gave up parental rights and custody, so Jang changed his son's last name to his last name.

Fortunately, her son improved with treatment and even showed a hopeful prognosis that a bone marrow transplant was not required.

Jang, who lost both his parents when he was young and grew up alone, decided to have a second child by receiving sperm donations so that his son would not experience the same loneliness.

She has always felt deeply lonely because she grew up without her parents. When I die, my son has no family. So I wanted to get pregnant because I wanted my son to have a younger brother," he said.

She attempted the first in vitro fertilization (in vitro baby, IVF) in April last year, but failed.

A year later, she succeeded in her second attempt and became pregnant. In fact, in China, it is illegal for unmarried women to receive sperm donations and perform artificial insemination in vitro. It is not known how she performed the procedure.

She gave birth to her daughter on the 13th of last month, and immediately faced tremendous pressure on hospital bills.

In addition to 500,000 yuan (about 96 million won) for her son's leukemia treatment, she turned to crowdfunding donations to support her daughter's intensive care unit treatment, which costs more than 3,000 yuan (about 580,000 won) a day.

However, the decision to have a second child amid severe financial conditions sparked strong criticism from netizens.

One netizen wrote, "It's hard to understand that you have a son fighting leukemia and you choose to give birth to a second child even though you're in debt", Criticism poured out such as "'I feel sorry for the children' and 'too selfish thoughts'

On the other hand, some suggested opinions such as `Let's support her in a unfortunate situation.'
