Professor Jeon Seop's team at Soonchunhyang University Cheonan Hospital develops a smart platform to prevent falls
Dec 23, 2024
Professor Jeon Seob's team at Cheonan Hospital affiliated with Soonchunhyang University has developed a smart platform to prevent falls in hospitalized patients.
The platform consists of two types of smart movement sensors, such as smart indoor shoes and smart bed mats, and an EMR (Electronic Medical Record System) data-based fall risk factor analysis and diagnosis program.
Indoor shoes and bed mats equipped with precision sensors detect information such as movement and balance of inpatients on walks and beds, and the detection information is transmitted to the EMR-linked fall risk factor analysis and diagnosis program in real time.
The platform helps to implement accurate fall prevention measures by quickly and accurately delivering information on the risk of falling of inpatients to medical staff.
The platform is the result of Professor Jeon Seop's team's four-year research project (establishing a patient safety system through the development of an intelligent integrated fall prevention platform in field response) with the support of the Ministry of Health and Welfare's 「2021 Public Health Technology Research Project」.
The study was jointly participated by Soonchunhyang University Seoul Hospital, Soonchunhyang University Bucheon Hospital, Soonchunhyang University ICT Convergence Research Center, and the Korea Institute of Production Technology.
Professor Jeon said, "The platform is currently undergoing clinical trials" and "We will increase the possibility of clinical application by the first half of next year when clinical trials are completed along with advanced work such as sensors and analysis programs." he said.
Professor Jeon continued "In the course of the research, great achievements were achieved, including the publication of a total of 11 SCIE papers, eight patent applications, one patent registration, and eight software registrations."
Meanwhile, Professor Jeon Seob was invited to the Central Patient Safety Center's 2024 on-site demand-response patient safety research results exchange meeting held at the Kensington Hotel in Yeouido, Seoul on the 17th to share related research results and results.
