Professor Jung Won-kyu of Radiological Oncology Department at Gangdong Kyunghee University Hospital (Director Lee Woo-in) recently received a commendation from the Minister of Health and Welfare at the '2024 Health Industry Promotion Health and Medical Technology Commercialization Award'.
This award is given to those who have contributed to the development of the health industry through activities to develop technologies in the health care field, transfer or trade them to other institutions or companies, or support new technology-based startups.
Professor Jung Won-gyu has been conducting various clinical research and technology development related to low-dose radiation therapy for early dementia patients. Through this, he started ReadyCure, a dementia radiation technology developer, and focused on technology development, contributing to the promotion of the health industry and public health promotion.
In 2024, ReadyCure achieved innovative research results by recording one investment attraction (500 million won), selecting Deep Tech Tips, seven national project orders (a total of 1.85 billion won), seven technology transfer and patent applications, and four awards. In particular, technology transfer achievements include multiple Gentry low-dose radiation therapy devices and capsule-type low-dose radiation therapy devices, contributing to the development of the health industry.
Dementia is an incurable disease that cannot be treated fundamentally, and it is one of the most feared diseases worldwide. To date, dementia treatments have been developed through various studies, but despite the development of laws, there are only dementia symptom relief drugs so far, and no drugs have been developed to treat them. Professor Jung Won-gyu has been focusing on research and technology development of low-dose radiation therapy as one of the new treatments for non-drug dementia treatment to conquer this dementia.
