Model Lee Hyun-yi confessed that she was diagnosed with narcolepsy, a rare and intractable disease.

According to the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service, the number of narcolepsy patients in Korea as of 2022 is 6,646. It occurs at about 13 people per 100,000 people.

Sleep paralysis, also called sleep seizure, is a sleep disorder symptom that makes it difficult to endure severe sleepiness even after getting enough sleep. It is a neurological disease that is presumed to occur due to decreased secretion of the arousal substance 'hypocretin' in the hypothalamus of the brain. Typical symptoms include fatigue attacks in which muscles suddenly lose strength and collapse due to strong emotional stimuli such as excessive drowsiness during the day, laughter and surprise, sleep paralysis, and insomnia and hallucinations.

Lee Hyun-yi, who appeared as a special MC on the SBS entertainment program 『My Ugly Baby』, which aired on the 22nd, said "If you lie down, your brain waves will fall asleep within 4 minutes. I fall asleep while my husband is talking about it while I'm having a marital fight. I fought because of that, but he understood because he said he was diagnosed with narcolepsy. He confessed his discomfort caused by narcolepsy.

Drowsiness can have serious effects such as safety threats such as traffic accidents in daily life due to symptoms such as fatigue attacks and sleep paralysis. Therefore, if you have experienced sudden sleep without your knowledge, you should suspect narcolepsy. It occurs a lot in adolescence, but care should be taken because diagnosis is often delayed by mistaking it as 'Jaemin'.

In order to diagnose narcolepsy, detailed tests such as polysomnography, which analyzes sleep patterns, and polysomnography, which evaluates the degree of daytime drowsiness, are needed.

When diagnosed, it is recommended to reduce risk factors in daily life through rapid drug treatment. Examples include prevention of excessive drowsiness through stimulants and relief of degeneration through antidepressants.
