The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that some products sold by global ophthalmic pharmaceutical company Alcon 'Systane Lubricant Eye Drops Ultra PF' carry out voluntary recalls.
Alcon said it will recall foreign substances in response to consumer complaints that they were observed inside sealed disposable vials, and that the foreign substances turned out to be 'fungus'.
The FDA says "Fungal contamination of ophthalmic products is known to potentially cause eye infections. Infections can threaten vision and, in very rare cases, the life of immunocompromised patients"It is known that there have been no reports of side effects on the product so far."
The recalled product is 'Systane Lubricant Eye Drops Ultra PF', written on the package as 'Single Vials On-the-Go', '25' lot number is 10101, and the expiration date is until September 2025.
According to the FDA, those who purchase the eye drops must stop using them immediately and may request a refund or replacement.
If you have any abnormal symptoms, you should see a doctor.
Alcon said the existence of the foreign substance appears to be limited to a single product returned by the customer and that it has implemented recall measures to prioritize consumer safety.
