According to foreign media such as ET Today and Reuters, events called 'Self-discipline Challenge' are prevalent throughout China.
Participants must pay a participation fee and stay isolated in a room with surveillance cameras, meeting the conditions given for about 30 days.
Participants' appearances are mainly broadcast live on social media, and the organizers' conditions include using the bathroom for less than 15 minutes, not covering their faces for more than 3 seconds, and turning off the lights at 10 p.m.
If successful, the organizers said that compensation of 60 million won to up to 120 million won will be given with our money, but no actual prize money will be given.
One participant participated in the competition, which cost 250,000 yuan (about 50 million won), and successfully completed it for 30 days, but when it came time to receive the prize, the organizers refused to pay the prize, saying they violated the `face cover' on the third day of the competition. Another participant participated in the challenge on the condition that she could not use her phone for 35 days, but was eliminated because she covered her face for more than 3 seconds.
As a result, it is pointed out that the given rules are things that cannot be observed and that they can find fault with all kinds of things, leading to the failure of the rules.
Angry participants are belatedly taking legal action, demanding a refund of the participation fee from the organizers.
