Cho Jin-hyuk, a neurologist at Suwon Nanuri Hospital's Brain Neurology Center, said, `Stroke is divided into cerebral infarction caused by clogged blood vessels and cerebral hemorrhage caused by bursting blood vessels. Stroke symptoms vary depending on the damaged area of the brain, but the most common symptoms include muscle weakness, decreased skin sensitivity, poor pronunciation, dizziness, and severe headaches, and in severe cases, unilateral paralysis.
So, what should we do to reduce the risk of stroke in our daily lives?
Regular exercise is essential to health. However, special attention is also required when exercising in winter, and sudden exercise in cold weather can cause blood vessels to contract, increasing the risk of stroke. Therefore, people with high blood pressure or heart disease should choose indoor exercise and exercise in the afternoon when the temperature is relatively high. Intensive exercise can increase blood pressure rapidly, so light stretching is good.
In addition, sudden temperature changes lead to an increase in blood pressure. When going out, keep your neck and head warm, keep the indoor temperature between 18 and 22 degrees Celsius, and take care not to make a big difference between indoor and outdoor temperatures.
Although you can only think of fractures in falls on icy roads or snow in winter, it is recommended to wear shoes that are not slippery when you go out because there is a possibility of brain bleeding due to a fall hitting your head. In particular, elderly people should use a cane to maintain good balance of their bodies.
Manager Cho Jin-hyuk said, `The incidence of cerebrovascular diseases caused by cold waves in winter is very high. However, small lifestyle changes can prevent strokes, so you should try to keep it with interest. In particular, if you have a family history of cerebrovascular diseases, if suspected stroke symptoms develop in these weather, it is recommended to quickly visit a neurologist and manage them through accurate diagnosis such as CT and MRI tests.
