When you think of dementia, your memory declines and you first think of the symptoms of wandering the streets. However, there are various types of dementia, and 'front-to-head dementia', which appears frequently in the 50s, shows behavioral symptoms before memory. If your personality and behavior change impulsively or you have difficulty choosing words when you talk, and you get obsessed, you should check for dementia through a test.

Dementia, commonly thought of, is a typical symptom of dementia caused by Alzheimer's disease.

In addition to memory and language impairments, judgment and direction are lost, and eventually the ability to take care of oneself is lost. However, in addition to Alzheimer's disease, dementia can be caused by more than 50 kinds of diseases.

Front temporal lobe dementia is famous for a disease that famous actor Bruce Willis also suffers from. This occurs when the frontal lobe, the anterior part of the brain, and the temporal lobe below the lateral side, degenerate. Behavioral symptoms often appear before memory and are not diagnosed early. It can be classified into behavioral variations in which personality changes and behavioral disorders appear in the early stages, and language variations in which language ability deteriorates.

In behavioral variations, they show a different personality than before and act impulsively and rudely. In addition, it is difficult to understand social etiquette, and emotional expression and empathy deteriorate. They may be overly obsessed with certain activities or repeat certain words or actions. There is also a compulsive behavior of collecting and collecting things. In linguistic variations, it is difficult to select words. As dementia progresses, the number of words gradually decreases or the same words are repeated.

Front temporal lobe dementia often has a family history and accounts for 10% of all dementia. In particular, psychological behavioral symptoms and speech disorders are characterized. It is one of the early-onset dementia, and the onset of symptoms varies from 40s to 80s, but it most often appears in the 50s.

Front temporal lobe dementia is known to have a shorter lifespan and faster progression than Alzheimer's disease. To diagnose frontal temporal dementia, a questionnaire on symptoms is conducted, followed by blood tests and neurological tests. PET-CT (positron emission tomography) can accurately diagnose dementia early and can help distinguish between frontal and temporal lobar dementia and Alzheimer's disease.

Because frontal temporal lobe dementia has many psychological behavioral problems, drugs to control it are used a lot. Treatment uses anti-psychiatric drugs that control cognitive function improvements or behavioral psychological symptoms, and symptoms can be expected to be alleviated by non-pharmaceutical methods such as cognitive training and speech therapy. Various drugs known to be effective in mood and behavioral disorders of Alzheimer's patients are also used for symptoms such as de-suppression and repetitive behavior in frontal occipital lobe patients.

Director Lee Eun-joo of the Department of Neurology at Ceran Hospital said, `Modulating the surrounding environment and reducing problematic behavior in patients with the frontal brain can reduce stress or risk in patients as well as their families"Exercise rehabilitation may be beneficial for patients with motor difficulties and speech therapy for patients with aphasia.", he explained.

Manager Lee Eun-joo said, `It is important to accurately diagnose dementia early because frontal brain dementia is common in people in their 50s and is often mistaken for other diseases due to the nature of symptoms.' If necessary, the early diagnosis of dementia should be made using PET-CT tests, etc., and symptoms should be alleviated and the rapid progression of the disease should be suppressed through medication," he stressed.
