A Korean man is known to have suffered more than 400 million won in damage from a so-called 「Dating Fraud」 by a Thai woman.

According to Thai media such as Channel 7, A, a Korean man, recently appeared on a local broadcast and told his story of being a victim of 'romance scam'.

In December 2020, he met a Thai woman, B, at a bar in Pattaya, a Thai tourist destination.

The woman is in a bar for financial reasons, but she has brought up that she doesn't want to work there.

In response, A told her to quit her job and offered to support her financially.

Their relationship began in January 2021.

A handed over 40,000 to 50,000 baht (about 1.7 million to 2.12 million won) to women every month between Thailand and Korea. He usually visited Thailand every two months and stayed for 10 days before returning to Korea.

Later, B claimed that his father had died and demanded more money from A. In response, the man remitted 100,000 baht to add to the funeral.

However, the woman continued to ask for more money, citing various reasons. In addition to her girlfriend's living expenses, she even sent money to relatives.

In addition, women claimed that millions of baht were needed for traffic accident treatment, store operation, miscarriage surgery, and cancer treatment.

A believed the claim that she had cancer when she saw her talking to the doctor on a video call.

However, after transferring the cancer treatment fee, A did not meet her. She claimed she couldn't meet because her condition was serious.

After receiving a call from her sister that her girlfriend died of cancer on December 11, A suspected.

Coming to Thailand, he visited the previously mentioned hospital and the temple where he said he had a funeral, but could not find any sign of B.

Even my sister asked for money, saying that she would share life insurance worth 5 million baht with A, and that she should first send 500,000 baht, or 10% of the amount, to the insurance company.

However, A, who thought everyone was deceived, blocked all their contacts and insisted on taking legal action against five or six people involved in the scam. It was estimated that the amount of money he was swindled was more than 10 million baht (about 420 million won).

It is not known whether he actually filed a complaint with Thai police.
