Twin parents preferred equal friendship over 68.9% rank
Dec 26, 2024
It was found that nearly 70% of parents with twin children wanted an equal friendship than the order of their children's hands and hands. This is the result of a survey conducted by the Korea Population Health and Welfare Association on 1,343 twin (multi-parent) families (pregnant women and parenting parents) in November.
As a result of the survey, the preferred relationship formation for raising children of twin parents was in the order of equal friendship between twins (68.9%) and ranking between twins (31.1%). Among them, twin parents with children from daycare centers and kindergartens (over 3 years of age) showed a high preference for friend relationships (78.4%).
Twin parents with children of elementary school or higher also prefer friendship, including 51.5% for children in the first and second grades of elementary school and 57.1% for those in the third grade of elementary school or higher, but the gap between friendship and ranking is narrowing little by little.
An official from the Korea Childcare Promotion Agency said, `Twinners tend to change their relationships or roles according to their tendencies over time, so that one side takes the initiative.' It is desirable not to give power in the order of birth, such as by name, rather than over-emphasizing the rank," he stressed.
In terms of children's education, the highest concern area for twin parents was dealing with jealousy and competition consciousness between twins (30.7%), followed by setting educational directions between twin temperament differences (25.8%), emotional deprivation concerns due to parental affection distribution (19.4%), separation and simultaneous discipline (18.2%), and twin-specific information search and network formation (5.9%).
In addition, the willingness to join the class (53.4%) was slightly higher than that of the class (46.6%) due to the preference of twin parents when allocating childcare and educational institutions. Among them, parents with children from daycare centers and kindergartens (over 3 years of age) preferred the class (57.2%), and parents with children in the third grade or higher preferred the class (62.7%), indicating that they preferred the class as their children's age increased.
On the other hand, twin parents were most worried about whether they could enter kindergartens at twin daycare centers (29.6%), followed by whether they operated care classes (20.1%) after regular classes, acquisition of social rules and formation of companionship (26.1%), and changes in relationships between twins in group life (24.1%).
Parents with children from daycare centers and kindergartens (over the age of 3) chose to enter together (33.5%), parents with children in the first and second grades of elementary school were concerned about 'caring class' (32%), and parents with children in the third or higher grades of elementary school were concerned about 'acquiring rules and companionship' (28.3%).
In addition, twin parents are concerned about establishing an independent identity of twins (37.6%), forming smooth companionship (32.7%), academic achievement (grade gap, etc.) (18.7%), and understanding of twin characteristics (11%).
