According to ABC News and other foreign media, on the afternoon of the 22nd (local time), the central part of a 530-meter-long bridge connecting Estratosh, Mar-a-Nyang, Brazil, and the city of Aguiaropolis, Tocantins, collapsed.
The accident sent 10 cars plummeting down the 50-meter-deep Tokantins River.
Authorities in the state of Mar-a-Nyang said two people were killed in the bridge collapse and 14 are still missing.
Police are searching for the missing with the navy and fire brigade.
Authorities also expressed concern about the condition of the Tokantins.
This is because two trucks that crashed from the bridge were carrying sulfuric acid.
Police said the two trucks were each carrying about 120,000 liters of sulfuric acid and about 22,500 liters of pesticides and herbicides.
The moment of the bridge collapse was also captured in the video.
A local councilman was filming a video pointing out a crack near the bridge, which opened in 1960, when two people on motorcycles approached the bridge, a part of the bridge suddenly collapsed.
In the past, the city council and residents had demanded measures from the authorities, saying cracks and breakages on the roads often occur.
Authorities plan to make all-out efforts to search for missing people while also investigating the safety of residents near the river.
