White wings in the eyes?Awareness of the middle-aged and above

There is a disease in which a white color develops between the black and white eyes of the pupil.

This ophthalmic disease, called the military wing (epidothelium), is a disease caused by degenerative changes in the conjunctiva, and is caused by conjunctival wrinkles or fibrous vascular tissue covering the cornea. The name military wing came to be called because the lesion was shaped like a wing, and it became more common with age.

When there is a white film on the eyes, it is often mistaken for cataracts. Cataracts appear blurry due to turbidity in the lens, and it is difficult to judge cataracts with the naked eye unless they are terminal. On the other hand, military wings are covered with white flesh or membranes on the surface, not inside the eyeball, and symptoms can be confirmed with the naked eye. Therefore, if the white membrane is visually identified, it is correct to suspect the ampulla rather than cataracts.

The plexus is triangular and can be easily diagnosed with the naked eye during treatment. Usually, it is diagnosed using a micro light microscope by looking at the characteristic shape of triangular fibrous vascular tissue that grows from the conjunctiva and invades the cornea.

Blades are caused by stimuli such as ultraviolet rays, wind, and dust.

It occurs frequently in the age group after middle age and is more prevalent in men than in women. There is also a genetic cause, and it occurs a lot in people who spend a lot of time outdoors. Although the initial symptoms are not clear, it is characterized by the appearance of black and round black porcelain in white. As the size increases, friction of the conjunctiva increases, dry eyes can intensify, and blood vessels are abundant in the tissue, making it easy to feel congestion.

No surgical treatment is required for early military wings. If you have irritation symptoms such as foreign body sensation, eye drops of lubricants such as artificial tears can help. Surgery to remove the ampulla is essential if the ampulla is too large and astigmatism occurs or invades the axon and reduces vision.

The operation to remove the plexus is performed by removing the tissue that has grown into the cornea. However, the plexus is likely to recur even after removal surgery. The recurrence rate is as high as 30-50%, and the younger the age, the more recurrence. Because the recurrence rate is very high if only the plexus is simply removed and the sclera is exposed, the surrounding conjunctiva must be pulled to cover the exposed sclera or covered with a conjunctiva or amniotic membrane at another site.

Director Kang Min-jae at Seran Hospital's Ophthalmology Center said "If you have a flat stomach, you can easily get bloodshot and feel a foreign body sensation."I explained that "the anus is not always a disease that requires surgical treatment, but if the anus is too large and astigmatism occurs or vision is reduced, surgery is recommended."

Manager Kang Min-jae then explained, `The anterior surgery takes about 30 minutes and does not require hospitalization for partial anesthesia. However, since recurrence is a big problem, surgical treatment needs to be carefully considered depending on the patient's age and degree of plexus" he advised.
