Why U.S. Bible Sales Are Up 22% From Last Year

In the United States, Bible sales increased 22% from the same period last year between January and October this year. Analysts say that overseas wars, economic concerns, and uncertain presidential elections are the reasons.

According to the Wall Street Journal, 13.7 million copies of the Bible were sold between January and October in the United States.

Last year, about 14 million copies were sold, an increase of about 22% compared to the same period.



On the other hand, total book sales increased by less than 1% compared to last year.

The Evangelical Christian Publishing Association said that the number of people reading the Bible for the first time has increased.



The association analyzed that the Bible was purchased as a means for people to rely on spiritually due to conflicts abroad such as war and terrorism, uncertainty surrounding elections, and economic conditions.

According to the Pew Research Center, a pollster, about 28% of adults in the U.S. think they are atheists.



However, Bible sales have been continuously increasing since 2019.

Some argue that another factor in the increase in Bible sales is the marketing of publishers.

Publishers are presenting the Bible in digital form as well as print versions.

In particular, it is selling a new version of the Bible, which includes visual components such as maps, charts, and characters' biographies in its content. It was analyzed that this strategy was passed on to young people such as Generation Z.
