After inhaling gas from onions, it is presumed that they fell into an acute allergic reaction, 'anaphylaxis' shock.
According to local media such as Tintuk 24h, a 61-year-old woman living in Dongchiu City, Quang Ninh Province, Vietnam, suddenly developed shortness of breath while cutting a large amount of onions at home and eventually lost consciousness.
Examined at the transferred hospital, she was found with coma, respiratory failure, bilateral lung contraction, loss of ventilation and erythema spread all over her body.
Medical staff diagnosed it as grade 3 anaphylaxis, respiratory failure, and bronchial asthma of unknown cause.
The hospital emergency team attempted intubation and medication, after which the patient became conscious. The next day, the patient was stable and discharged from the hospital.
Medical staff explained that they seemed to have fallen into anaphylactic shock while inhaling gas from a large amount of onions.
Anaphylactic shock is a serious allergic reaction that causes hypersensitivity reactions in the body to certain substances such as drugs, food, and foreign substances. There is usually an immediate reaction, and if treated immediately, it recovers without any problems, but delayed diagnosis and treatment can be fatal.
