'Because I Hate Korea' Starring Ko A Seong to Open BIFF on August 28

The film "Because I Hate Korea" (directed by Jang Geon-jae, produced by Mokushura) is set to be released on August 28.

It has been selected as the opening film of the 28th Busan International Film Festival, carrying a message of empathy and hope that resonates with contemporary times. Based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Jang Kang-myung, the film is directed by Jang Geon-jae, known for critically acclaimed works such as "A Midsummer's Fantasia" and "Juhee from 5 to 7."

Ko A Seong stars as Kye Na, a young woman in her 20s who embarks on a journey of self-discovery, challenging and growing along the way. The film also features performances by Joo Jong-hyuk and Kim Woo-gyeom, both recognized for their acting skills, who portray various aspects of youth and offer solace through their relatable portrayals.

The main poster of "Because I Hate Korea" features Ko A Seong standing with a backpack in the airport departure hall, ready to leave Korea. Her expression vividly conveys a mix of excitement, hesitation, regret, and determination as she prepares for a fresh start. The tagline, "I decided to start anew in search of happiness," along with the bold title "Because I Hate Korea," piques curiosity about the movie's storyline. Symbols like airplanes, cars, and a penguin that dislikes the cold hint at the protagonist's quest for true happiness.

"Because I Hate Korea" tells the story of a woman in her late 20s (Ko A Seong) who abruptly leaves her job, family, and boyfriend to move to New Zealand in search of happiness. Directed by Jang Geon-jae, with performances by Ko A Seong, Joo Jong-hyuk, and Kim Woo-gyeom, the film will be released on August 28.
