Korea Communications Standards Commission decides on JTBC's prompt review of the broadcast KBS→BTS Suga misrepresented on Liberation Day 'Kimigayo'

The Korea Communications Standards Commission (hereinafter referred to as the Korea Communications Standards Commission) has decided to review KBS and JTBC quickly.

In a general meeting held on the 19th, the Korea Communications Standards Commission announced JTBC 'Newsroom' that aired on the 7th and KBS1 'KBS Broadcasting Seat' that aired on the 15th as targets for rapid deliberation. The Korea Communications Standards Commission decides to deliberate quickly on broadcasting programs that are deemed urgent by the chairman alone or at least one-third of the registered members. If it is designated as an agenda for prompt deliberation, the agenda can be deliberated in two weeks and severe penalties beyond legal sanctions can be imposed.

Earlier, JTBC 'Newsroom' received a lot of attention by releasing CCTV showing the incident while dealing with the drunk driving incident of BTS member Suga. However, the CCTV footage released by 'Newsroom' caused controversy when it was confirmed that it was not Suga. Regarding the misinformation, 'Newsroom' said "It was confirmed that the man in the video passing by the boulevard on an electric scooter was not Suga. He apologized for the confusion, saying, "I apologize for the confusion." However, public criticism of the misinformation continued.

In addition, KBS, which broadcasted an opera 'Madame Butterfly' containing Kimi songs on Liberation Day, is known to be the subject of rapid deliberation. KBS broadcast a recording of the opera 'Madam Butterfly' performed at the Seoul Arts Center in June early on National Liberation Day. Set in Nagasaki, Japan in the 1900s, 'Madame Butterfly' is a work about a tragic love story between a young Japanese gisaeng and a U.S. Navy lieutenant. In some scenes, a woman in a kimono was seen singing Kimigayo, which was used in the militaristic era, and viewers criticized immediately after the broadcast.
