Director Jang Geon-jae expressed his feelings ahead of the release of the movie I Hate Korea.

Director Jang Geon-jae said at the press and distribution premiere of the movie `I Hate Korea' held at CGV Yongsan I'Park Mall in Ichon-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul on the afternoon of the 21st, `I feel like the situation has grown as much as it did at the Busan International Film Festival last year.'

『I Hate Korea』, which will be released on the 28th, is based on Jang Kang-myung's best-selling novel, which tells the story of Gina (Go Ah-sung) in her late 20s who suddenly leaves her job, family, and boyfriend for New Zealand alone one day in search of her happiness. Director Jang Geon-jae of the films 'Sleepy Night' and"Fantasia in the Midsummer' took the megaphone.

Director Jang, who directed the film, read the original work in the year it was published in 2015. After reading it for the first time, I had a gut feeling that I wanted to make a movie. Soon after that, I called the publisher and started looking for movie rights. Perhaps those who read the novel saw the story in Kye-na's first-person speaking style, but in the case of the movie, it was necessary to write and research the script because it had to create a realistic physical space with the surrounding characters. The original film covers about seven to eight years, so I had a question about how to deal with that time as well."

Previously, 'I Hate Korea' was selected as the opening film of the 28th Busan International Film Festival. Director Jang said "It was the same at the Busan International Film Festival last year, and the feeling that it is about to be released now feels like something has grown. In fact, it was a small and simple project, but I don't think I could handle it (laughs)." In particular, A-sung couldn't attend the Busan International Film Festival, which was the most regrettable part for me and my team. The host of the opening ceremony was actor Song Kang-ho, so I thought it would be great if the two of you met. Also, the audience really wanted to see A-sung through GV, but it was impressive to be able to say hello over the phone" he recalled.
