MBC held its first meeting on the 21st with an appointment ceremony for the MBC Audience Committee in 2024, which will contribute to the protection of viewers' rights and development of broadcasting.

The 12 new MBC audience members were commissioned after an open recruitment process and a transparent and fair review of the MBC audience committee, a labor-management consultative body.

The committee secured diversity by receiving recommendations from various sectors of society, including media, academic, youth, science and technology, human rights, and culture, and balanced the distribution, gender, and generation by age group from 20s to 60s.



Three viewers recommended by media and academic organizations are ▲ Shim Mi-sun, a professor of media communication at Soonchunhyang University (recommended by the Korean Media Policy Association), ▲ Shin Mi-hee, secretary-general of the Citizens' Coalition for Democratic Press (recommended by the Citizens' Coalition for Democratic Media) ▲ Yoon Jang-yeol, a researcher in the Department of Media Communication at Pukyong National University (recommended by Barun Regional Press Association).

The recommended members of human rights organizations are ▲ Director of the Institute for the Rights of Know (recommended by the Human Rights Solidarity) ▲ Young-mi Hong, chairman of the 4.16 Sewol Ferry Disaster Family Council (recommended by the 4.16 Sewol Ferry Disaster Family Council) ▲ Hwang In-gul, former head of the Military Military Sexual Slavery Service (recommended by the military corruption public interest reporter and the military human rights center).



In the youth category, ▲ Kim Hee-kyung (recommended by the Korean YMCA National Federation) was appointed.

In the cultural category, two people were selected: ▲ film director Lim Chan-ik (recommended by the Korean Film Directors Association) ▲ Hong Won-sik, professor of liberal arts at Dongduk Women's University (recommended by the Sejong Institute of the Korean Language).



In the fields of science and technology, consumer protection, and the underprivileged, three others were appointed: ▲ Choi Lang-gyu, auditor of the Disaster and Safety Management Institute (recommended by the Disaster and Safety Management Institute) ▲ Choi Joon-ho, director of the Full Sea Behavioral Research Institute (recommended by sharing forests) ▲ Han Jung-hyun, master's course in the Department of Media Communication at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (recommended by Mapo Hope Sharing).

Professor Shim Mi-sun was elected as the chairman of the audience committee and lawyer Kim Hee-kyung as the vice chairman at the meeting.

Chairman Shim Mi-sun said, `Restoring the media ecosystem is an urgent task.'"The committee will do its part to help MBC, the most reliable public broadcaster, represent the voices of viewers." expressed his aspirations.

Ahn Hyung-joon, president of MBC, said, `We will use the committee's proposals and opinions as nourishment to help MBC, a public broadcaster, stand firm.'

The term of office of the MBC Audience Committee will be two years from August 2024, and detailed activities will be released on the homepage of 'With MBC' and the Ombudsman Program 'Desired TV'.
