Joaquin Phoenix lost more weight than the first film at CGV Yongsan I'Park Mall in Ichon-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, on the afternoon of the 26th at the press distribution premiere and live conference of the movie 'Joker: Poly Ade.'"It was difficult because I practiced dancing more."
Released on October 1, 'Joker: Polyadet' (hereinafter 'Joker2') is a sequel to the 2019 box office syndrome 'Joker'. It tells the story of Arthur Fleck, who shocked Gotham City two years ago, facing the deeply hidden Joker again after a fateful meeting with Harley Quinn, and showing his true self with unstoppable runaway towards the world. Following the previous episode, director Todd Phillips took the megaphone.
Joaquin Phoenix explained the character first. It was really touching when I heard it. It was so nice to see the script afterwards. I felt this character was really deep and unpredictable. It's really hard when I'm doing a movie, but I've never thought it was boring while filming the first movie. When I got home, I called the director and told him about the scene I had to shoot the next day. At the end of the shoot, I said, "I hope this doesn't end."I felt that there were too many stories to tell with this character," he said.
Joaquin Phoenix delicately depicts the process of Arthur Fleck, an ordinary man who dreamed of becoming a comedian, turning into a rare villain, the Joker. Since then, he has been honored with the award for Best Actor at major ceremonies, including the 92nd Academy Awards, the 25th Critics' Choice Awards, and the 77th Golden Globe Awards for Drama.
In particular, he made extraordinary efforts by losing about 23 kilograms of weight to fully express the character. Joaquin Phoenix drew attention by portraying the perfect Joker in the second installment following the first installment. In response, he said, `I don't remember exactly how much weight I lost. I wanted to show the worse and worse. I lost more weight than the previous one, but in the second one, I had to practice dancing for six to eight weeks for two hours a day. Since it was important to keep the tension and energy, I repeated the practice with a great choreographer. In the tap dance scene, Lady Gaga played the piano to the point where her fingers were bleeding, and she used a lot of energy by putting a blood pole on her neck. I also received that energy and poured out my passion. I was also grateful that the director gave me a lot of encouragement next to me."
