The film 'Pillow', which newly wrote the history of the occult genre, met with audiences from all over the world in the official competition section of the 57th Chesses International Fantastic Film Festival held from the 3rd to the 13th (local time). The Chesses International Fantastic Film Festival in Spain is considered one of the world's three largest Fantastic Film festivals along with the Brussels Fantastic Film Festival and Portugal's Fantastic Film Festival in Belgium. 'Plumyo' has been popular overseas since its release in the ninth month, winning a special jury award as well as becoming the most popular film at this year's festival thanks to the support of local audiences.
'Farmo' was in the spotlight for hosting the world premiere at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival Forum section ahead of its release. Since then, the 48th Hong Kong International Film Festival, the 42nd Brussels Fantastic Film Festival, the 14th Beijing International Film Festival, the 26th Shanghai International Film Festival, the 26th Udine Far East Film Festival, and the 57th Chesses International Fantastic Film Festival have been constantly receiving love calls from leading overseas film festivals. In addition to its intense genre appeal, acting by actors representing Korea and excellent directing skills, it has received a variety of favorable reviews from global audiences.
Released on February 22nd and recorded 11.9 million viewers, the first 10 million film in 2024 was born, leading to an all-time overseas box office syndrome that fits the global buzz. It proved the power of K-Occult through brilliant records noted by the global film market, ranking No. 1 in Indonesia, Vietnam, and Cambodia, followed by No. 2 in Australia, Thailand, and India, and No. 3 in North America.
'Plumyo' is also set to be released in Japan on the 18th, so the popularity of overseas box office is not expected to cool down in the second half of the year. Director Jang Jae-hyun, who directed the film, actor Choi Min-sik as Sang-deok, and actor Kim Go-eun as Hwarim recently visited Japan for the local release and held an official event, drawing a heated response.
