Director Kim Sung-soo, who opened in November last year and attracted 13.12 million viewers, sparked the syndrome of the theater district 'Seoul Spring'. Director Kim Sung-soo, who introduced a new work 'Seoul Spring' after seven years since 'Asura' released in 2016, showed the essence of a well-made period drama by expressing the nine hours of the day in Seoul, the capital, as a confrontation between greed and belief, and a confrontation between good and evil, which was the start of changing the fate of modern Korean history. Director Kim Tae-yong's 'Wonderland' is also attracting attention, having returned to feature films for the first time in 13 years since the release of 'Manchu' in 2011. Created by combining the cinematic imagination of a video call service with a universal story that everyone can sympathize with a loved one, "Wonderland" was well received for its unique sensibility and imagination of director Kim Tae-yong.

Director Ryu Seung-wan of Chungmuro 'Action Master' will also challenge for the Blue Dragon Film Awards once again. Director Ryu Seung-wan's 'Veteran 2' attracted 7.52 million viewers with its exhilarating action and thrilling catharsis loved by the audience in its previous work, as well as its expanded story and worldview. Director Lee Jong-pil of 'Escape from the Straight Down' was also named as a candidate for this year's director award. Director Lee Jong-pil, who dealt with the courage of those who can look reckless beyond the bad conditions of all given realities when the world is impossible, heated up the theater with a message of sympathy and comfort with a tight chase action. Director Jang Jae-hyun of 'Pamyo', which caused a drama in the theater with K-Occult this year, was also nominated for the Best Director Award. 'Farmyo' opened a new edition of the occult horror film with a familiar and most Korean approach based on the five elements of yin and yang and feng shui, which cannot be omitted from Korean folk beliefs, and gained enthusiastic support from 11.91 million viewers.

Director Kim Se-hwi of 「She is dead」, which tells the story of witnessing the death of an SNS influencer observed by a real estate agent whose hobby is stealing and searching around the influencer to clear the murderer. Director Nam Dong-hyeop of 『Handsome Guys』, who shook the entire Korean film industry with his never-before-seen comedy, was also proudly named as a new director of the Blue Dragon Award this year. Director Nam Dong-hyeop, who has been working as an assistant director for a long time in works such as 'High Society'Moneybag'Romance'Best Seller', succeeded in his late debut with 'Handsome Guys' and became a newcomer to Chungmuro's attention. Director Celine Song, who drew attention as the daughter of the talented director 'No.3', will also challenge for the Blue Dragon Film Award for Best New Director through 'Fast Lives'. Director Oh Jung-min of 'Jangson', who showed the potential of an indie buster and gained word of mouth as the best independent film this year, was also named as a new director. The eldest son is a story about three generations of a large family running a tofu factory as a family business in a rural village in Gyeongsangbuk-do. The Blue Dragon Film Awards is expected to re-examine the story of the family of our time, which includes various generations, genders, and classes, asking questions about the meaning of the family and giving a deep lingering feeling to look back on the audience's intimate memories. The last candidate for the Blue Dragon Film Award for Best New Director is Cho Hyun-chul from 'You and I'. Based on the 2014 Ferry Sewol disaster, 'You and I' is a story about high school students Semi and Ha-eun, who spend a dreamlike day with what they want to convey to each other. Actor Cho Hyun-chul's first directing debut, which revealed his strong presence as Cho Seok-bong in the original Netflix series 'D.P.', received a lot of attention.
