SBS Special 'Body Documentary - Confession about Fat' aired on the 29th revealed the hardships that Korea's leading female stars experienced under pressure on their appearance and weight and their own solutions.
Hwasa said of herself, "'Hwasa-like' is confident' and "'When the CEO asked me to grow it into a style that would last a long time as a girl group, I cut my hair short with defiance." That was MAMAMOO. He recalled the time with a smile, saying, "I was full of unfounded confidence."
However, he also revealed his experience of being severely evaluated due to his appearance and being asked to sign his withdrawal from the team. "It was too cold at the time. As the industry focused on appearance, the attention pouring on me hurt him,' he recalled.
In particular, weight management was intensive when he was a trainee. Hwasa put a weight chart on the wall of the practice room and submitted it at the end of the month evaluation. To lose weight, I took medicine emptying from the pharmacy and weighed myself" Then "If I ate secretly, I would cry and vomit with stress and guilt. It led to anorexia, he said.
Weight and appearance pressure also affected her mental health. Hwasa "I felt nauseous and my salivary glands kept flowing. Anorexia and depression came and depression affected people around them as well. At the time, I felt this was not it."
Eventually, Hwasa decided to change for herself and began to express her feelings and oppression through music. "Unattainable beauty standards and pressures wore me down, but I exploded my anger and frustration with the song "Maria"." he said. Then "I wanted to show something cool as I am. Now, I want to find confidence that meets my standards," he stressed.
Hwasa says "I'm tired of the keyword 'weight' itself. I hope everyone will think lightly a little bit. "If you take care of yourself and find a healthy balance, you will find more pleasant things in your life."
