2 million viewers! Popular Wicked to make new history in Broadway musical film

The topical film "Wicked" (Import/distribution: Universal Pictures), which decorated the theater district at the end of 2024, has surpassed 2 million viewers, continuing a new box office record.

As of December 28, the movie `Wicked' had accumulated 2,8854 viewers, exceeding 2 million in 39 days after its release. This is the record of establishing itself as a 2024 foreign currency box office hit along with 'Inside Out 2', 'Wonka' and 'Moana 2' in theaters at the end of the year.

In particular, it is expected to soon surpass the box office performance of 'Dune: Part 2', which recorded 2019,129 people, and become a top 4 foreign currency box office in 2024.

Not only at home but also around the world, the magic of the box office of 'Wicked' continues. Following the most successful Broadway musical film of all time 'Mamma Mia!' (2008, $611.5 million), 'Wicked' is on the verge of exceeding $600 million in cumulative worldwide box office profits. This is regarded as a moment to write a new history of musical movie box office success.

In addition, the film was nominated for four major categories at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards, recognizing its cinematic quality, and setting a milestone for its entry into the second place on the Billboard 200 chart after the release of the soundtrack. It is the highest ranking of the original Broadway musical films, demonstrating both musical appeal and explosive popularity.

The movie depicts the adventures and crises that the two main characters, Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), who did not discover her true power, and Glinda (Ariana Grande), who did not realize her true nature, face while building a friendship. Their stories captivate audiences with fantastic visuals and fascinating music.

The popularity of 'Wicked' is expected to lead to a sequel 'Wicked: Part 2' due to be released in November 2025. 'Wicked', which is currently playing in theaters across the country, is writing a new legend of musical films.
