Netflix's original entertainment series 'Strongest Rugby: Die or Win' is a sports survival entertainment show that shows the real game of rugby players who continue their desperate advances by throwing their whole bodies for the glory of victory. Jang Si-won PD, who was loved by viewers for his authentic story through 'Strongest Baseball', 'Steel Corps', and 'City Fisherman', and Netflix, which led the global K-survival craze through 'Physical: 100', 'Black and White Cook: Cooking Class Wars', are gaining high expectations for sports survival entertainment.
Above all, YB Yoon Do-hyun will serve as music director, helping him on a month-long moving journey to determine the strongest rugby team in Korea, a rugby barren country. It is expected that the hot fighting spirit and unpredictable match of rugby players who never give up and run even if they fall and bump into each other even in difficult environments will provide emotion and fun.
Music director Yoon Do-hyun, who was passionate enough to scrutinize the interviews of the players of the seven teams, said "'Maximum Rugby: Die or win' is a work that is more touching than sports" contains the passion, sacrifice, and moving teamwork of each player. It is one of the themes where rugby players play rugby without giving up even in a difficult environment, and I wanted to express the players' hot fighting spirit and energy through music"It added to my expectations.
The following is a Q&A with music director Yoon Do-hyun.
- How do you feel about participating as a music director in 'The Greatest Rugby: Die or Win?'
▶ A music director is an attractive job as a creative musician. However, there was a lot of worry about whether the result would be as good as the time and effort it took to receive the proposal and whether it would be possible to create it at the given time. Just in time, I was preparing YB's metal album, and the request to decorate it with music that is connected to metal in genre was very interesting. I was excited to challenge "The Strongest Rugby: Die or Win" because I thought it was fate. It was a special experience and I am grateful to the production team for giving me a good opportunity.
- What message did you want to put in the original soundtrack
▶'Strongest Rugby: Die or Win' is a work that is moving beyond sports. It is a work that contains the passion, sacrifice, and moving teamwork of each player. The story of seven teams with distinct personalities and players united by fighting spirit became an important source of inspiration. In order to capture each team's personality in music, the theme of each team was created and the players' stories naturally melted in it. One of the themes is the story of rugby players playing rugby without giving up even in a difficult environment. I wanted to express the players' passionate fighting spirit and energy through music. If it's long or short, I made 17 songs in about seven months. The impact of the work was intense, so I didn't have much difficulty composing.
- What kind of music did you make?
▶The main title song 'End And End' is a hybrid metal song with a strong rock sound. The message contains the will to never bend and the fighting spirit of rugby that rises again when you fall. Various music such as metal, hip-hop, alternative, and classical music were inserted into the scene. I mainly used rock and metal to show the overwhelming power of the players and the powerful dynamic of the game. The ending song 'Ordinary Hero' is a British rock song that symbolizes the passion of rugby players and the moment when everyone becomes a hero. It is also a praise that everyone who works hard to achieve their dreams and lives their best every day is a true hero.
- To the viewers of 190 countries around the world
▶Rugby is a really powerful sport. I can feel the sincerity of the players by watching the scenes where they get up again and run even if they fall while hitting bones and bones. I made music by supporting the sincerity of the players. I hope you can feel the emotion and fun together while watching the exciting rugby game. I am excited and looking forward to meeting viewers from all over the world through Netflix. I am looking forward to introducing the passion of Korean rugby and Korean rock music to the world. For me, the journey of making rugby into music was really special and I was grateful. I hope that the passion of rugby players will be conveyed to the viewers as well.
Yoon Do-hyun's powerful and unrivaled music will be added to the new sports survival entertainment show `The Greatest Rugby: Die or Win' that will explode dopamine and emotions will be released only on Netflix on Dec. 10.
