Sales and audience numbers of foreign films rose about 30% in November compared to October 2024, the previous month, as well as the same month last year.
In November, the strong performance of foreign films, Korean films ranked 5th to 6th in the overall box office in November in terms of "Cheongseol" (directed by Chosunho, produced by Movilak) and "Hidden Face" (directed by Kim Dae-woo, produced by Studio & New). 'Cheongseol' is a youth romance film remake of a Taiwanese film of the same name, with sales of 7.1 billion won (760,000 viewers), the highest box office performance for a Korean film in November. Director Kim Dae-woo's 'Hidden Face' was also a thriller remake of the Colombian film of the same title. 'Hidden Face' recorded sales of 6.1 billion won (650,000 viewers) in November.
As such, the release of remakes with original works is booming in Korean movies, which is one of the trends seen in theaters overall this year.
