According to a list of nominees for the 82nd awards ceremony announced by Golden Globe organizers on the 9th (local time), 'Squid Game 2' was nominated for best TV series drama.
In the category, "Squid Game 2" will compete for trophies with FX dramas 'Shogun', Netflix 'Diplomat', Apple TV+ 'Slow Horsys', Prime Video 'Mr & Mrs Smith' and Pikok 'Day of the Jackal'.
Above all, 'Squid Game 2' is set to be released on the 26th, and it is attracting attention as it is nominated for the Golden Globe Awards before its release. Director Hwang Dong-hyuk also expressed his feelings about being nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Picture through Netflix, saying, "Thank you so much for putting a work that has not been released yet to be nominated for such a big award ceremony. We did our best not to disappoint our fans who loved Season 1 and we are happy that the Golden Globe was the first to know about our efforts."
"If you look at Season 2, you can see that the social critical message that has continued since Season 1 is alive," he said, adding that "it would be even more meaningful if you think about and reflect on these points in connection with what is happening in reality right now."

Usually, U.S. broadcasters do not release new works at the end of the year, and it is speculated that Netflix may have delivered the completed version to the Golden Globe in advance, breaking the practice and releasing 'Squid Game 2' during the Christmas holiday season at the end of the year.
However, since it is not yet officially aired, 'Squid Game 2' was nominated for only one TV drama award at the Golden Globe Awards. It is the second time that the `Squid Game' series has been nominated for a Golden Globe Award.
Previously, at the 2022 Golden Globe, 'Squid Game' was nominated for three categories: Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Supporting Actor. At that time, Oh Young-soo won the Best Supporting Actor Award, drawing attention as the first Golden Globe award by an Asian male actor.
Season 2 of the 'Squid Game' tells the story of a fierce battle between 'Gi-hoon" (Lee Jung-jae), who returns to the game after vowing revenge, and 'Frontman" (Lee Byung-hun), who greets him, and the real game begins again. It will be released on Netflix on the 26th.
The 82nd Golden Globe Awards will be held on January 5 next year.
