The bible of Taiwanese romance movies and the beloved 'emotional restaurant' for 17 years has been remade and visited the Lunar New Year theater.
The fantasy romance film 「Untold Secrets」 (directed by Seo Yoo-min, produced by Hive Media Corp) was unveiled at the press and distribution premiere held at Megabox COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul on the 14th. 'Untold Secrets', which began filming for the first time in November 2021 and finished filming in January of the following year, has been working hard on a long time later to meet the audience for the first time in three years. The premiere was attended by Do Kyung-soo as Yoo Jun, a genius pianist suffering from the aftereffects of injury, Won Jin-ah as Jeong-ah, a music student with an unspeakable secret, Shin Ye-eun as Yoo Jun's music and colleague In-hee, and director Seo Yoo-min.
'Untold Secrets' is a work depicting a miraculous magical moment between two men and women who run into each other in a campus practice room where the secret of time is hidden. It was released in Taiwan in July 2007 and attracted the love of its own audience, and in Korea, it was released in January 2008 and received enthusiastic reviews from critics and the public, making it a remake of the original Taiwanese film of the same name.
As such, affection for the original work served as a key keyword in the remake 'Untold Secrets'. In fact, Do Kyung-soo, Won Jin-ah, and Shin Young-eun, who participated in the Korean version of 'Untold Secrets', cited the reason for choosing the work as a 'long-time fan of the original work'. Do Kyung-soo "I loved the original Taiwanese film so much that I had no choice but to choose itWon Jin-ah said "I was also a fan of the original. There was also fear because of it. Isn't it a work that has a solid fan base? I wondered if I could do well.'
Director Seo Yoo-min, who directed 'Untold Secrets', also expressed his fan sentiment, saying, `It is a work that I love enough to visit the filming location of the original work in person.' He said "The original film came out more than 20 years ago, and isn't it a movie that has long been known for 'emotional restaurants?" So I had a lot of worries about the remake production. In fact, while watching the scenario, of course, there was something I was worried about. I wanted to express the cheesy line, but Do Kyung-soo knows how to change it naturally. As I worked on it, I had faith in it."
It was a courageous challenge with a clear and fresh texture unique to the original film, and added fun with Korean storytelling that gave variations to detailed settings such as characters and backgrounds and the overall atmosphere. He changed the ages and backgrounds of the main characters from high school to college and brought his passion for his first love to the fore. The classic OST, which is the beauty of the `Untold Secret', also makes efforts to differentiate itself from the original soundtrack, such as changing all OSTs surrounding the main character except `Secret," which is the identity of the movie.
Do Kyung-soo said "It can be compared to the remake of the character played by Joo Geol-ryun, but there was no burden. I was confident that I would be able to express it well with the current emotions"I was sure.
Won Jin-ah "The emotion of dating 20 years ago is different from that of now. I think Gye Ryun-mi, the heroine of the original, is calm and mature. I'm small and lively, so I tried to change the remade Jung-ah character into a curious and innocent character. It's a melodrama with a classic atmosphere and emotion for the first time in a long time."
