On the morning of the 16th, art director Chae Kyung-sun, music director Jung Jae-il, and cinematographer Kim Ji-yong met with Sports Chosun to talk about filming on Netflix 'Squid Game 2'.
At the meeting, art director Chae Kyung-sun said the statue of Young-hee's character, which appeared in season 1, was also used in season 2. Director Chae said Young-hee and Cheol-soo's designs were inspired by illustrations in elementary school textbooks. Coach Chae said, "When designing Young-hee in season 1, a sketch of Chul-soo had already been conceived. Cheolsu had a design that was drawn like a pair with Younghee in a suspenders."
Director Kim Ji-yong then said, `I didn't want to take a pretty picture of Young-hee at all," he answered firmly, drawing laughter. "(Younghee) rather wanted to emphasize the weirdness of the character called the murder weapon, so I paid attention to the lighting and other parts," he said. As for the filming technique, "I tried to convey a sense of weirdness and pressure through the distance and angle between the camera and Younghee." It was intended to highlight that Young-hee is not just a doll but a threat to the participants."
Kim Ji-yong, the new director of Season 2, said regarding the differentiated filming techniques of Season 2 only "The camera angle is set so that viewers can experience it as if they were one of the 456 participants." he said.
He said "We took pictures of people and events up close, giving them a documentary sense of immersion, while also using a way to show the overall situation of the game with an oblique shot looking down from a high angle." In particular, he emphasized that in the round game scene, slaughter occurs from a distance, but it is attempted to produce a complex production that can feel different from a different perspective.
Meanwhile, the Netflix series 'Squid Game 2' tells the story of Ki-hoon (Lee Jung-jae), who returns to the game after vowing revenge, and the fierce battle between the frontman (Lee Byung-hun), who greets him, and the real game that begins again. It recorded 26.3 million viewers (view time divided by the total running time of the work) from the 6th to the 12th, maintaining the No. 1 English and non-English integration in the Netflix Global TOP 10 series, and continues to respond explosively on the Top 10 list of 93 countries around the world.
