KBS 1TV's Lunar New Year special documentary '7 million Arirang', which will be broadcast on the 28th, is a global project that illuminates the lives of overseas Koreans living around the world and the soul music and Arirang of the Korean people who connect them.
Choi Jung-hoon, who participated as a presenter and performer, visited New Zealand and Uzbekistan to look into the lives of overseas Koreans living by protecting Korean culture there.
In New Zealand, I met with the family of Moon Deok-young, who runs a ranch in a remote village with no electricity or water. Even though it has been 24 years since they left Korea and settled down, the family has kept Korean tradition by boiling Yukgaejang in an iron cauldron and eating kimchi made by themselves. In particular, it was impressive that the two children born here also enjoyed Korean food naturally and talked in Korean. Choi Jung-hoon, who was watching this, could not hide his surprise, saying, `I forgot for a moment that this is New Zealand.' Arirang, which the family sings with longing for their motherland, resonated and added emotion.
In Uzbekistan, he encountered Kim Ernest, a next-generation politician who was appointed as the representative of the Korean youth. He said he is now proud of his identity as a Korean after 160 years of Goryeo migration, a time when even the word 'Korea' could not be easily spoken. "Since we are rooted in two countries, we are trying to pioneer the future twice as hard."He showed his dedication to improving the rights and interests of the Goryeo people.
Upon hearing his passionate story, Choi Jung-hoon delivered a message of support, saying, `Arirang of young Koreans is Arirang of dreams and challenges.'
The production team said, "'7 million Arirang' will be a work that makes us realize that we are still one."
'7 million Arirang' aired on KBS 1TV at 7:40 p.m. on the 28th.
