Director Kim Sang-ho said, "They were not just kings and queens, but couples who loved and conflicted with each other", he explained his plan intentions. He tried to express that King Taejong Yi Bang-won started concubine politics, but as time passed, his love for Queen Won-gyeong became deeper", he said, "I interpreted the work around the complex relationship between the two."

Cha Joo-young, who played Queen Won-kyung, lived a fiery life that was difficult to express in words. Even though it was his first attempt at a historical drama, he was attracted by the narrative and charm of a real person and gladly joined the work.
