Director Bong Joon-ho recently met with Sports Chosun somewhere in Yeouido, Seoul, and there is no burden on the audience's expectation of "Mickey 17". I also wanted to play a fun movie at the Berlin International Film Festival."
The film 'Mickey 17' is Bong's return to the Cannes Film Festival Grand Prix and the American Academy Award for the film 'Parasite' (2019). It is based on the American writer Edward Ashton's novel `Mickey 7' and tells the story of Mickey 18, a consumable (expendables) put into dangerous work and reprinted after death, when Mickey 18 was printed thinking he was dead during his 17th death crisis.
In particular, when asked if there was no burden on the audience's expectations, as 'Mickey 17' is the next film of 'Parasite', director Bong replied "I've never felt it to be honest." He said "In fact, the Berlin International Film Festival was also asked to come to the competition section. I was lucky, but I can't hope for more awards now. Rather, I wanted to go to the non-competitive section and play a movie happily````````````````````````````````````````. He was born in 1963, and all of those things happened when he was 31. At that time, it was bustling and chaotic. On the other hand, I was already in my 50s when 'Parasite'. Of course it was exciting and glorious, but I had two egos to watch one step away from."
Then "I'm preparing a lot of things then and now. I'm also working on the animation movie I'm making now, starting to prepare for the latter part of 'Parasite' and making it slowly. continue to work in that stream," he added.
Meanwhile, 'Mickey 17' confirmed its release in Korea for the first time in the world on the 28th. The North American release date is March 7.
