Joint Security Area Director Park Chan-wook's queer narrative? It would have been possible in the 21st century

Director Park Chan-wook said in the CJ ENM's 30th anniversary Biggernery selection at CGV Yongsan I'Park Mall in Ichon-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul on the 4th that `The Joint Security Area JSA' GV (Conversation with Audience) that `It would have been possible in the 21st century, but it was difficult to realize in 1999.'
Director Park Chan-wook's film 'JSA', released in 2000, contributed to a change in public perception of inter-Korean relations by unraveling the reality of division with a human perspective. In addition, actors representing Korea, including Song Kang-ho, Lee Byung-hun, Lee Young-ae and Kim Tae-woo, received enthusiastic reviews from the audience as their performances were added. Director Park Chan-wook, Song Kang-ho, Lee Byung-hun, Lee Young-ae, and Kim Tae-woo had time to reflect on the meaning of the work through the GV held on this day.
Director Park said "It was an honor to receive an award as an individual and a creator, but it was good to be able to meet actors to receive an award for his work. (Shin)Ha-kyun went to play and fell in, but I don't know how much fun he is having," he revealed, causing laughter. In the meantime, "Thank you CJ ENM for providing a place to get together like this, not only the actors but also the staff are here today."
In particular, director Park said he wanted to make it with queer material at the time of production, but it was canceled due to opposition from the production company. "If it had been made in the 21st century, wouldn't it have been possible?"It was difficult to make it happen in 1999 when this movie was made," he explained.
