Lee Byung-hun Transforms into Go Legend in ‘The Match,’ Premiering March 26

The movie 'The Match' (directed by Kim Hyung-joo, produced by Moonlight) unveiled a still from Lee Byung-hun, who turned into the world's best Go legend Cho Hoon-hyun.

Set in the 1990s when Go was regarded as the best brain sport, the movie is based on Cho Hoon-hyun, a world-recognized Go legend, like sports stars such as Kim Yu-na, Park Ji-sung and Son Heung-min.

As it is a movie about a real person, when it comes to casting, I had to be more careful than any other role. Director Kim Hyung-joo, who wrote and directed the movie, said, "As soon as I wrote the first page of the scenario, I thought Lee Byung-hun was a suitable actor," adding, "Lee Byung-hun was the only actor who could express the emotions of the drama in detail, including the appearance of a master, confidentness, and desperation when it collapsed. I realized once again that he was Lee Byung-hun when I saw him performing even the trembling of his eyes with the checkerboard in front of him on the set.

As Lee Byung-hun's image in the movie, which became a 'Victory' itself, was released through posters and trailers, the reaction of prospective audiences is heating up online. Many people recalled Cho Hoon-hyun's youth image in Lee Byung-hun's appearance, and responded that it overlaps naturally as if they had changed their faces.

Lee Byung-hun confessed that he was not very interested in Go because he was talking about it because he did not know much about it before reading the scenario for the first time. However, after reading the scenario, he fell in love with the charm of a dramatic story and decided to appear after being convinced that even audiences who were not familiar with Go would be able to immerse themselves enough.

Along with various materials prepared by the production team, Lee Byung-hun actually met Cho Hoon-hyun and thoroughly analyzed the character. Based on this, he made an effort to play a game that even those who do not know the rules can understand. In particular, by expressing emotions in detail and detail, I took care of the viewers to catch this person's psychology."

'Victory' is a story about Korea's best Go legend, Cho Hoon-hyun, who once again challenges the top with his natural temperament as a adventurer after losing a match against his student. Lee Byung-hun, Yoo Ah-in, Ko Chang-seok, Hyun Bong-sik, Moon Jung-hee, and Kim Kang-hoon appeared, and director Kim Hyung-joo of 'Security' took the megaphone. It will be released on March 26.
