SBS's Friday-Saturday drama 'My Perfect Secretary' (played by Ji Eun, directed by Ham Joon-ho and Kim Jae-hong) ended successfully with the modifier 'My Perfect Drama'. While the viewers' uncooled enthusiasm was felt even after the end of the show, producer Ham Joon-ho directly delivered his sincere feelings to the viewers who have sent hot love.
Producer Ham Joon-ho was arrested on March 1, 2020, in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, after spraying soju on passers-by and indiscriminately assaulting them. At that time, producer Ham Joon-ho was controversial for his actions, such as yelling at police officers and swearing at female police officers in their 20s even after being moved to the police station. The police booked producer Ham Joon-ho on charges of special assault and insult and applied for an arrest warrant in consideration of his criminal record, but the prosecution rejected it. - I wonder how you feel about the end of 'My Perfect Secretary'
▶ I'm just thankful and sorry. The big mistake made in the past has caused inconvenience to the drama that the actors and staff did their best to make. I regretted it every day for the past five years, and I felt ashamed. From the moment I took charge of directing 'My Perfect Secretary' to the end, I just thought about doing my best at what I could do right away. And seeing this work so much loved, I personally resolved not to forget my fault for the rest of my life and to become a better person day by day. I believe that's the way to all the actors and staff who have been with the viewers who loved the drama. Once again, thank you and sorry to so many people who loved 'My Perfect Secretary'.
- What was it like when Han Ji-min and Lee Jun-hyuk were casted. I also wonder how you saw the acting of the two actors.
▶ Actor Han Ji-min and actor Lee Jun-hyuk's melodrama was a dream-like combination for the director. When that combination is completed, I'm going to film it beautifully' had only one strong thought. 'My Perfect Secretary' is a drama that could shine with the ideas of the two actors. Both actors always knew exactly what points to make use of in the field, and they agonized together to express that point without being obvious. It was literally 'My perfect protagonist'.
Above all, both actors resemble their characters. Actor Han Ji-min is a person who is confident like Kang Ji-yoon, but also vulnerable. Watching her in the field, I learned a lot personally, regardless of the relationship between the director and the actor, and I also felt a feeling like a longing for 'I want to be that person'. Actor Lee Jun-hyuk was delicate, caring, and very smart in his work, but at the same time, he still retains the innocence of a child. I always carefully came up with clever ideas, and I saw that he was more serious than anyone else, but he always had a strong desire for comedy in his heart, so I thought if 'Yoo Eun-ho' was real, this would be what it would look like.
- Was there a point that focused on directing to express the contrast between cold Ji-yoon and warm Eun-ho.
▶ Artistically, I tried to express the contrast between Jiyoon and Eunho. Ji-yoon's house created a cold and desolate feeling by excluding colors as much as possible, and Eun-ho's house, on the contrary, wanted to express a space that felt warm and noisy by arranging various colors. And the office space of 'People' where the two of them live together expresses the feeling of Jiyoon and Eunho permeating each other by setting orange as a key point. Ji-yoon's fiery redness mixed with Eun-ho's warm yellow to create an orange color.
- How was the visual beauty.
▶ The planning intention of the 'My perfect secretary' is to believe in the great miracle of ordinary little good intentions". So I wanted to express a story like a miracle in everyday life, and I drew a melodrama unfolding in a familiar space that as many people as possible can encounter in everyday life. The staff and actors had a hard time filming in an area where many citizens are highly accessible. In the case of 'Gwanghwamun Kiss Scene', it was a constrained environment, but the two actors showed amazing concentration. I had to express my feelings in the commotion of the city center, but I often felt respected watching the two actors performing with concentration as if only Eun-ho and Ji-yoon existed in the space.
- What is the main point in directing Ji-yoon and Eun-ho's romance scene.
▶ In fact, it is difficult to choose one part because the directors and staff of all parts did their best to produce the best results. However, if I had to pick the part that physically devoted the most time as a director, it was music work. I wanted to express the process of Ji-yoon and Eun-ho getting closer to each other carefully, but not in a hurry, but not in a boring way, and music was important to complete the last control of the level. I asked the music director for the lightness of the solo piano rather than the grandeur of the orchestra. They made a lot of good songs, so we always worked with joy. Editorial director, assistant director, and OST team also helped a lot with the music work, and it seems that the romance between Ji-yoon and Eun-ho was able to gain convincing power through such efforts.
- It was impressive to express Ji-yoon and Eun-ho's feelings with hands or to make eye contact without a single line.
▶ At the first meeting, I looked at the hands of the two actors carefully, and I imagined how they would feel when their hands were folded. When actor Han Ji-min's small hand was wrapped in actor Lee Joon-hyuk's big, a little clunky, but manly hand, I thought Eun-ho would feel like he was hugging Ji-yoon. I wanted to express my feelings of favor with my hands before exchanging them with my eyes, thinking that the hands are faster than the eyes. The director took a good picture of Ji-yoon and Eun-ho's hands with an exciting feeling.
As many people know, actor Han Ji-min's eyes are so good. Depending on the situation, the eyes change delicately, and the degree of expression varies depending on the emotion. I wanted to make full use of that strength. If Ji-yoon is a subjective character in all aspects, Eun-ho is a character who relatively captures and cares for Ji-yoon's emotions. Actor Lee Jun-hyuk was also well aware of this point, and I think he performed perfectly to accept and embrace Ji-yoon's intense emotional eyes. These were possible scenes because the eyes expressing strong emotions and the eyes that received and touched them met.
- Is there a famous scene that you personally put your heart and soul into directing.
▶ I'd like to point out the 4th part ending and the 7th part of the piano performance that revealed the sincerity while drunk. The ending of the fourth part was so good that I didn't want to sign a cut because Jiyoon and Eunho's facial expressions and atmosphere were so good even at the moment of filming. The emotions expressed by the two actors and the atmosphere of the scene made by all the teams were so good that I put a lot of effort into the later work. I personally love this scene because I spent a lot of time editing, CG, effect, music, and color correction and made such great results.
The scene of the seven-part concert hall was composed by thinking about Chopin's music from script work with the writer. Chopin Ballade No. 1 was also my personal favorite classic song, and I thought it was the most dramatic expression of Jiyoon and Eunho's emotions that were seen without words. The script, acting, and editing fit the music best, so I personally worked with excitement.
- There were also actors Lee Sang-hee, Heo Dong-won, Ko Geon-han, Seo Hye-won, and Yoon Ga-i, Kim Yoon-hye, 'Career Way'Park Bo-kyung, 'People's'employees Lee Sang-hee, Heo Dong-won, and Yoon Ga-i.
▶ All the actors saved the drama 200% by instinct sometimes, sometimes by thorough calculation. As I gathered people with experience, there was no acting part to direct, and I thought my role would be over if I could just provide an environment where I could run around as much as I wanted. The actors Kim Do-hoon, Lee Sang-hee, Heo Dong-won, Ko Geon-han, Seo Hye-won, and Yoon Gai in the 'People' team always showed the best chemistry, especially when filming the 'People's' dining scene in the fourth part, there were so many unexpected acting and ideas that I felt full throughout the shoot.
Actors Kim Do-hoon and Kim Yun-hye also had such good chemistry that there was always a lot of positive energy in the scene when filming the two of them. From an actor's point of view, there must have been a lot of disappointment and disappointment, but I am grateful that he always expressed the character so well without expressing his feelings. Actor Park Bo-kyung, who was the only villain, was always burdened by having to act alone, and he must have been worried that he might be the only one standing out. It was a role that required a lot of calculation and preparation, but actor Park Bo-kyung was able to easily shoot scenes that were difficult to express because he always prepared an appropriate tone for various situations. ▶ As expected, it was the best.
