"The goal is the national flag."

This is Heo Yul (Gwangju FC), who has a new opportunity in his soccer life. Heo Yul, who was born in 2001, is a talent that Gwangju trusted and nurtured. He was from Kumho High School, the club's youth team, and showed off his potential early on.

Heo Yul made his professional debut in 2021 wearing a Gwangju uniform. He played as a tall striker at 1m93. He scored two goals and one assist in 18 K League 11 games in his first season. In 2022, he left six goals and four assists in 33 games in the K League 2 (second division). Last year, when he returned to the K League 1 stage, he delivered three goals and three assists in 33 games. He has played in 16 games this season. He played in a total of 100 K-League games against Jeju United on the 30th of last month.

After the game, Heo Yul thought it was one of 100 games. It doesn't mean much. Still, no one can play 100 games in the professional league. I'm grateful," he said with a smile.

Heo Yul tried a new challenge in his soccer life this season. He is playing as a central defender, not a striker. On April 27, he took his first step as a defender through the match against Suwon FC. Manager Lee Jung-hyo expressed satisfaction. Director Lee said earlier, `There are still some parts that are immature. If I guide you well, it will be better to position yourself."

He "I've met many leaders so far. Other coaches thought I was a striker, but coach Lee Jung-hyo found another advantage of me and led me to the center back. The director said 'You have to try to make anything happen' They saw my physical condition and ball-keeping ability as an advantage. I'm grateful to the director. I think positively about the opportunity to play as a center back.

Then "There are advantages of each front and back. I think I learn a lot by running in the last room. I think it's a good opportunity. I think I'm a rookie and I'm renewing it by having the mindset of a rookie. There is still a lack of experience and a lot I don't know. I'm learning. I think it's a growing stage."

Heo Yul once played a key role in the national team by age. I haven't made it to the A team yet. Heo Yul has a homework to grow as much as he has high expectations for himself. He added "It's not like playing football for a year or two. I think I can do it for another 10 to 15 years from now. You have to look far away. The goal is to put on the national flag. I will do my best and show good performance in any position. I will do my best to achieve my goal"I vowed.
