'War of Stars'The winner of the 2021 Cy Young Award will be the starting pitcher for the monster rookie.

Baltimore Orioles ace Corbin Burns was selected as the starting pitcher for the American League (AL) in the Major League All-Star Game. Texas Rangers coach Bruce Bochy said on the 16th (Korea time) that Burns will start the All-Star game.

Burns went 9-4 with a 2.43 ERA and 110 strikeouts in 19 appearances in the first half. He threw 118 ⅔ innings, gave up 25 walks and recorded a WHIP of 1.05 and a hit rate of 0.222. He is second in the AL ERA and fourth in pitching innings.

He won the NL Cy Young Award in 2021 when he was 11-5 with a 2.43 ERA and 234 strikeouts when he was with the Milwaukee Brewers. When he moved to Baltimore through a trade last winter, he was honored to start the All-Star Game in his first AL season. He is one of the best starting pitchers in the field as he has played in the All-Star Game for four consecutive years.

Burns is the fifth Baltimore pitcher to start the All-Star Game, and it has been 44 years since Steve Stone in 1980.

It was Pedro Martinez who notified Burns of his starting position in the All-Star Game. The Associated Press reported that Hall of Fame pitcher Pedro Martinez called Burns today to announce that manager Bruce Bochy had picked him as a starter.

Martinez cheered Burns "I hope you can do what I did 25 years ago," according to the AP. Martinez pitched as an AL starter in the 1999 All-Star Game at Fenway Park during his time with the Boston Red Sox and was named MVP. At that time, Martinez struck out four consecutive batters as soon as he took the mound, drawing applause from home fans.

In this call, Burns is "That's a wonderful thing. I'll do my best. There is a lot of work to do to keep up with (you)," he reportedly replied.

The NL starter who will face Burns is Pittsburgh Pirates rookie fireballer Paul Skins. Arizona Diamondbacks coach Torrey Lovello, the NL head coach, notified the Skins of the starting lineup for the All-Star Game on the 14th.

Skins made his major league debut in May and was officially recognized as a starting pitcher representing the NL with six wins, 1.90 ERA and 89 strikeouts in 11 games. Skins is the fifth rookie pitcher to start the All-Star Game after Hideo Nomo (1995), Fernando Valenzuela (1981), Mark Feidrich (1976) and Dave Stenhouse (1962).

In addition, Skins has only played in 11 games since his debut, all he has done is his big league career. This is the minimum career tie for All-Star Game starters like Feidrich in the Major League.

Meanwhile, before the home run derby on the day, the head coaches of both leagues announced the starting lineup for the All-Star Game to be held on the 17th.

The AL is in the order of left fielder Stephen Kwan (Cliveland), shortstop Gunner Henderson (Baltimore), right fielder Juan Soto (Yankees), center fielder Aaron Judge (Yankees), designated hitter Yordan Alvarez (Houston), third baseman Jose Ramirez (Cliveland), first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (Toronto), catcher Adley Ruchman (Baltimore), and second baseman Marcus Simien (Texas).

In the NL, second baseman Ketel Marte (Arizona), designated hitter Shohei Ohtani (Dodgers), shortstop Trey Turner (Philadelphia), first baseman Bryce Harper (Philadelphia), catcher William Contreras (Miladelphia), right fielder Christian Yelich (Miladelphia), third baseman Alec Bohm (Philadelphia), center fielder Teoscar Hernandez (Dodgers) and left fielder Jurickson Profar (San Diego).
