Gwangju Il High School has advanced to the quarterfinals of the Blue Dragon Flag.

Gwangju Jeil High School met Ansan High School in the round of 16 at the 79th Cheongryonggi National High School Championship and the weekend league King Wangjung match (co-hosted by the Chosun Ilbo, Sports Chosun, and Korea Baseball Softball Association) at Mokdong Stadium in Seoul on the 11th and won 4-1.

Gwangju Ilgo secured a valuable victory amid the performances of one-two punch left-hander Kim Tae-hyun and 'Idolryu' Kim Sung-joon, with ace Kwon Hyun-woo not taking the mound due to many pitches in the previous game.

Then Gwangju Jeil High School tied the score in the third inning. Gwangju Jeil High School pitched three scoreless innings in three ⅓ after second pitcher Kim Tae-hyun took the mound in a crisis in the third inning. And in the sixth inning, Kim Sung-joon, a second-year student at third base, was put on the mound when Kim Tae-hyun lost his strength in a crisis situation with two outs and runners on first and second bases. Kim Sung-joon was responsible for the rest of the inning after overcoming the crisis with a tremendous fastball of up to 149km. In the eighth inning, he faced a crisis with two outs and runners on first and second bases, but in the match against pinch hitter Lee Jae-hyun, he struck out swinging with a breaking ball, bringing the team a win.

Ansan High School tried to turn around in the last attack in the bottom of the ninth inning, but failed to overcome Kim Sung-joon's power and knelt down at the threshold of the quarterfinals.

Kim Sung-joon dramatically finished the game with 59 pitches in the ninth inning, allowing him to take the mound in the quarterfinals two days later.
