Midfielder Emiliano Martinez (25) who plays for Danish club Meat Willan is on the verge of entering the big league.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported on the 28th (Korea time) that Uruguay's active national team Martinez is attracting attention from Spanish Primera Liga clubs Villarreal and Getafe.

According to Romano, both clubs are expressing a specific interest in recruiting defensive midfielder Martinez on the condition of 'complete transfer after pre-lease'.

This is not the first time Martinez has received the attention of the European big league. He received a love call from English Premier League club West Ham in August last year and Everton, the same EPL club, in May last year.

The market value of the transfer fee website 'Transfermarkt' is 4 million euros (about 6 billion won), and the transfer fee mentioned by the local media is between 8 and 8.5 million pounds (about 14 billion to 15 billion won).

Martinez made his professional debut with Uruguay's prestigious Nacional in 2019 and moved to Brazil's Red Bull Bragantino in 2021, a club affiliated with Red Bull. Martinez, who joined Mitwillan on loan in 2022, made a full transfer in November of the same year. The contract period is until June 2027.

Martinez, who played as Mitwillan's main midfielder in the past two seasons and led Denmark's Super League to victory in the 2023-2024 season, was first selected for Uruguay in June 2023 and played two A matches. He also joined the final Copa America list in 2024.

Mitwillan is a team that serves as a bridgehead in the big leagues. Last season, Danish winger Gustav Isaksen moved to Italian Serie A club Lazio for a transfer fee of 12 million euros (about 18 billion won) based on his performance in Mitwillan.

Cho Kyu-sung, the national striker who joined Meat Willan from Jeonbuk last summer, is also one of the leading candidates to follow Isaksen's path. Cho Kyu-sung proved his ability by scoring a total of 12 goals in the league in his first season in Europe. Cho Kyu-sung, who chose surgery after last season to escape from a chronic knee injury, is expected to continue his scoring race as soon as he recovers.
