The Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) announced disciplinary measures related to the 'unauthorized departure of swimming national team Ana Carolina Vieira and Gabriel Santos.

According to Brazilian media Oglobo, Viera and Santos were embroiled in a heated controversy when they revealed themselves outside the Olympic Village on social media on the 26th, the opening day.

Gustavo Otsuka, the head coach of Brazil's swimming team, said "Everyone knows we're not here for vacation, we're here to work for Brazil." Otsuga also pointed out Viera's rough protest against the relay-related decision. Viera contributed to Brazil's qualification with a time of 54.81 seconds in the women's 400m relay on Saturday, and she was also scheduled to compete in the women's 400m medley relay. Otsuka said "Viera made technical decisions too hastily and violated his code of conduct as a national team member. "I lost my most important concentration in the game. I'm sorry, but there's no way. I don't like the situation, but there was nothing we could do. I tried talking to her twice in the pool area and tried the third time, but she didn't change. I don't even want to remember the words she used. I did something ridiculous and nonsense."

This is not the first time Viera has had trouble in the pool. During the 2023 Tropeu Brazil Games awards ceremony, he has already been talked about after arguing with his country's colleague Jennifer Conceicao.

Meanwhile, Viera's boyfriend, Santos, competed in the Brazilian men's 400-meter relay and finished 10th in 48.86 seconds. He did not participate in individual events.
