"Today is likely to be my last A match."

Another legend leaves Germany following Tony Cross, who has already announced his retirement. Thomas Muller hinted at retiring from the national team. Germany lost 1-2 to Michel Merino's theater goal at the end of extra time in the Euro 2024 quarterfinals against Spain at Stuttgart Arena in Germany on the 6th (Korea time). Germany, which tried to win the title as the host country, stopped its journey in the quarterfinals.

It was a great match. Spain took the lead with the first goal scored by Dani Olmo, who was substituted in the sixth minute of the second half. Germany did not hesitate to sit down. In the 44th minute of the second half, Florian Birtz, who was replaced by Joshua Kimmich, scored a dramatic equalizer.

Germany was able to determine the outcome with momentum. He had a decisive chance in the first minute of the second half of extra time. Jamal Musiala's powerful right footed shot hit Marc Cucurella's arm in the box. It was a clear handball. The German players protested that it was a penalty. Cucurella also seemed to have an inkling of the penalty. Judge Hajimna Taylor's whistle did not go off. It seemed to communicate with the video reading room, but there was no on-field review.

Germany, whose score was not recognized, eventually collapsed. He made a fatal run in the 14th minute, just before the end of the second half of extra time. Mikel Merino headed Olmo's cross and scored a theatrical goal.

Müller, who was replaced on the day, played his 131st A-match, but finished with a loss. There were tears on Mueller's cheeks after the game. After the game, he said "Today is most likely my last international match"

Mueller is a German legend. It ranked third in the all-time A-match tournament rankings in Germany. On top of that are only Rotar Mateus (150 games) and Miroslav Klose (137 games). Müller emerged as Germany's representative goaltender through the South African World Cup. He won the top scorer and assist for the first time in World Cup history with five goals and three assists at the South African tournament. He even won the Young Player Award. He also scored five goals to lead his team to victory in the Brazil tournament.

Müller, who showed good performance in the league and was consistently selected for the national team after the Qatar World Cup, dreamed of a successful victory by winning the tournament in his country, but unfortunately, he is ending his career in the national team.
