The biggest surprise match came out in badminton at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Tai Tzu Ying (Taiwan), who was ranked third in the world in the women's singles, the favorite to win, and the target of Ahn Se-young (Samsung Life Insurance), was eliminated from the group stage.

Tai Chi Ying was defeated 0-2 in the final Group E match of the women's singles against Lachanok Intanon (Thailand) on the 31st.

No one expected Tai Tzu-ying, who was likely to go straight to the quarterfinals as the third seed, to be eliminated early by the world's 21st-ranked relative underdog.

The two, who met with one win side by side, were able to confirm the finals tournament with two consecutive wins if they won the final match. In particular, Tai Chi Ying was seeded up to the third place in the world, so he was able to skip the round of 16 with Ahn Se-young (world No. 1) and Chen Yu-fei (world No. 2, China).

Prior to the match, Tie Tzu-ying was leading with 20 wins and 15 losses, and Tie Tzu-ying, who is overwhelmingly dominant with 8 wins and 2 losses in the last 10 face-to-face meetings, was expected to win.

But once the lid was opened, it was completely different. From the first game, Intanon pushed Tai Chi Ying hard. Intanon, who was tight until 6-6 and ran away with seven consecutive points, then managed to gain a 21-19 lead by running away despite Tai Chi Ying's strong chase.

Was the impact of the first game a big one. Tai Tzu Ying was lethargic in two games. After being pressed by the opponent's momentum from the beginning of the game, it was 2-12 and lost. Intanon, who solidified his winning spirit early on, later finished 21-15 without any pressure from Tait Tzu Ying.

With this, Intanon won two consecutive games and advanced to the round of 16 instead of sending Tait Tzu Ying home. He also had the luck of going straight to the quarterfinals because he was in the same group as the third seed.

Intanon is on the list of matches that Ahn Se-young could meet if he advances to the semifinals.
