Choi Se-bin (Jeonnam Provincial Government) missed the bronze medal.

Choi lost 14-15 to Olga Karlan of Ukraine in the women's sabre individual bronze medal match at the 2024 Paris Olympics held in Grand Palais, Paris, France on the 29th (Korea time). Choi Se-bin, who was aiming to win the women's sabre individual medal for the second time since Kim Ji-yeon, who won the gold medal at the 2012 London Games, unfortunately missed the bronze medal in front of her eyes.

Choi Se-bin came to the bronze medal match in the semifinals, losing 11-15 to France's Manon Afish-Brunne. In the event where the fate of the medal was at stake, Choi Se-bin did not back down and played a bold game. He took a 3-2 lead in the tight flow. I hit it little by little. A series of attacks were successful, widening the gap. He led 8-3 to finish the first period.

Choi's attacks did not stop. He first scored in double digits at 10-4. Karlan is on the chase. It allowed back-to-back attacks. They were 11-10 down to a point. In the end, he allowed a tie. It was overturned 11-12 with seven points down.

I found the flow again. Successive attacks were successful, and they took the lead again. Karlan was also formidable. 13-13. A conversion attack led to Karlan scoring, giving him 14 points first. Choi Se-bin made a cliffhanger and brought the game to square one. However, Karlan's attack was successful and unfortunately, he finished fourth.

Choi Se-bin, who beat Tatiana Nazlymov of the U.S. 15-14 in the round of 32, made an extraordinary breakthrough in the round of 16 by defeating Emura Misaki of Japan, who is currently ranked No. 1 in the world, 15-7. Choi, who was born in 2000 and ranked 24th in the world, won a bronze medal at the Tunis Grand Prix in January this year, becoming the first player to win an international individual competition, winning a landslide victory over Emura, the 2022 and 2023 World Championships winner.

The quarterfinal match was against Ha Young, the youngest member of the women's sabre team. In the round of 32, Jeon defeated Alina Komasichuk (Ukraine) 15 to 8, and in the round of 16, Jeon defeated Nadda Hafez (Egypt) 15 to 7. It was a great match. Choi Se-young won 15-14 after a fierce neck-and-neck race.

Choi Se-bin, who started fencing with twin Choi Soo-bin (Iksan City Hall) at the recommendation of a physical education teacher in the sixth grade of elementary school, was selected as a junior national team member in 2018. Immediately after graduating from high school, he joined the fencing team of the Jeonnam Provincial Government in 2019 and showed his unwavering skills in international competitions to qualify for the Paris Olympics as a representative of fencing in Jeollanam-do.

Earlier this year, he won the team bronze medal at the 2024 Asian Fencing Championships, starting with his first win at an international competition. Choi Se-bin, who boasts an outspoken play based on her large height of 1m73, failed to win the bronze medal unfortunately, but emerged as a new hope for the women's sabre.
