"I think there's something to change."

Even the winner couldn't smile comfortably. Heo Mi-mi (Gyeongbuk Sports Council) missed the gold medal in front of her due to an ambiguous decision.

Hur Mi-mi was fouled by Krista Deguchi of Canada in the women's 57kg or less judo final at the 2024 Paris Olympics on the 30th (Korea time).

Heo Mi-mi won the Korean Judo Medal '1st Medal' in this competition. There were no medals in the four men's and women's weight classes held in the previous two days. In addition, Heo Mi-mi gave a silver medal to Korean women's judo for the first time in eight years since the 48kg or less class information mirror at the 2016 Rio Games.

The last opponent was world No. 1 Teguchi. Humimi didn't back down against this heavyweight powerhouse. It was a tight game like the final. The two players engaged in a search early in the game. He was coached side by side at 56 seconds into the game. Meanwhile, Hur Mi-mi received a second guidance for a camouflage attack at 2:04. If you receive three maps, you will be declared a foul. Heo Mi-mi, who was in a inferior position, succeeded in overturning Deguchi, who crouched on the floor about a minute before the end of the game. However, Deguchi managed to defend against Humimi by grabbing her leg.

The two were unable to decide victory or defeat within the regular time (4 minutes). The game was extended. In the early part of extra time, Hur Mi-mi played the game wisely. In the end, Deguchi was given a second map at 1:48 of the start of extra time. The game went back to square one, but Hur Mi-mi was declared a disguised attack in the process of trying to fill in. The game was over as it was. It was Heo Mimi's foul.

On this day, the referee issued a series of false attacks against Heo Mi-mi. A disguised attack means pretending to be false, even though you don't actually intend to attack. In general, a player in a disadvantageous situation gives a camouflage attack map when he makes an attack for defense to avoid the situation.

Deguchi, who won the gold medal with a foul win, briefly looked into the air. He made some significant remarks at a press conference after the game.

When asked what he thought of the guidance decision, Deguchi said "Difficult question". He "I don't remember exactly what the situation was. There is nothing to say about the last map. I think there is something we need to change for better induction. I am confident that we need to change to move on to the next stage," he said. This can be interpreted as pointing out the ambiguity of the judgment criteria for disguised attacks.

Kim Mi-jung, head coach of the Korean women's judo team, also said after the game, `We may have a different view. However, it was not that Mimi was ever trying to enter a disguised attack. It's not like Mimi sat down and didn't wake up, she kept getting up and attacking.... But it wasn't like the Canadian player was attacking. Europe seems to have played a bit of a role in the decision.

Meanwhile, Heo Mi-mi, the party to the ambiguous decision, did not expect it to be a disguised attack. Still, it can't be helped because it's part of the game. Next time, I want to think about that and do judo."

Born in 2002, Hur Mi-mi was born to a Korean father and a Japanese mother and raised in Japan. He longed for his father, who was a judo player, and wore a uniform. He began to stand out in Japan when he was in middle school. When he was a junior in middle school, he won the women's 52kg class at the 2017 National Middle School Judo Competition in Japan. The following year, he won the runner-up prize in the same weight class as the Kadet Judo Championships in Japan. While exercising, Hur Mi-mi was diligent enough to go to Waseda University's sports science department, a prestigious university in Japan.

It was back in 2021 that changed his life. The grandmother, who was well followed by Hur Mi-mi, passed away. My grandmother's will was "I hope you will play for the Korean national team".

Humimi chose to go to Korea. He joined the judo team of the Gyeongbuk Sports Association along with Kim Ji-soo, a Korean Japanese who he knew well. In the process of joining the team, Heo Mi-mi found out that she was the fifth generation of independence activist Heo Seok (1857~1920). During the Japanese colonial era, Heo Seok was sentenced to imprisonment by posting an anti-Japanese text. In 1991, he was awarded the Order of Merit for National Foundation.

He cheered himself up for the Olympics. Through steady exercise, the ability to strengthen muscle strength and manage the game was also supplemented by gaining international experience. In June 2022, he won the gold medal at the Tbilisi Grand Slam, his international debut. He made it to the semifinals at the World Championships that year. This year was even fiercer. He has consistently performed well, winning gold and silver medals at the Portuguese Grand Prix and Asian Championships, respectively. Jinna won the gold medal at the world championships in May. It was the first time in 29 years that a Korean female athlete won the World Championship since Jung Sung-sook of the women's 61kg or less and Cho Min-sun of the women's 66kg or less in 1995.

Heo Mi-mi said "I wanted to tell my grandmother that I've worked hard in judo until today and I'll continue to work hard." Unfortunately, I went to the final with the national flag at the Olympics, which was my dream since I was young. I was so happy. I'm so happy to win a medal. It's a shame that I couldn't sing the Korean national anthem. I really want to sing it at the next Olympics. I think I'll be older (in four years), so I think I'll have better physical strength. I think I'll be able to win a gold medal in the next Olympics"I'm determined.
