But this summer is different. It was so quiet. There are no people. The sound of construction was full. It was due to the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics, which will be held on the afternoon of the 26th (local time).
This opening ceremony is the first outdoor opening ceremony in the history of the 128-year-old Olympics and the opening ceremony of the award. More than 10,500 athletes from 206 countries march on the Seine in 100 ships by country. Starting from the Osterlitz Bridge near the Paris Botanic Gardens, you will walk 6km to Trocadero Square near the Eiffel Tower. It passes through Notre Dame Cathedral, the Louvre, the Musée d'Orsay, and the Place de la Concorde. There will also be a stands on the Alexandre III bridge. When the ship carrying the team arrives at Trocadero Square, the torch will be lit and the declaration of the opening of the tournament will ring.
To make a new history, the French government controlled the area around the Seine where the opening ceremony would be held. From the 18th, 10 days before the opening, the area around the Seine River was designated as a boundary area (Gray Zone). Pre-registered personnel, such as athletes and media, and those who live or work in the control area are allowed to come in only if a QR code pass is issued through an online platform. Cars were also allowed to enter only with a pre-issued pass. Most of the 18 bridges passing through the Seine were temporarily closed.
A Parisian who lives in a controlled area said "It's almost the first time the Seine has been so quiet. I haven't felt relaxed in a long time."
However, due to excessive control, voices of dissatisfaction are also formidable. Everywhere in downtown Paris suffered from traffic jams. Many citizens are experiencing inconvenience as subway stations within the controlled area also pass without stopping.
