He has won an Olympic medal for the first time in 12 years since the men's team silver medal at the 2012 London Games.

'Lightning Man' Lee Joon-hwan (22, Yongin University) won a valuable bronze medal. World No. 3 Lee Joon-hwan defeated Belgium's Matthias Kasser in the men's 81-kg bronze medal match held at the Chandmars Stadium in Paris, France. Lee Joon-hwan, who won the bronze medal, won his first men's judo medal in this competition. In Korean judo, Hur Mi-mi won a silver medal in the women's 57kg class the day before.
