Manchester United has decided to overhaul its vast organization.

The British Daily Mail reported on the 3rd (Korea time) 'Manchester United will lay off 25% of its employees. At last Wednesday's meeting, staff were informed that nearly 250 of the club's 1,100 employees would lose their jobs, the report said.

Since the appointment of a new owner named Jim Ratcliffe, United have been aiming to cut costs. They decided to receive consulting on the club's finances, and the result is employee layoffs.

The Daily Mail says there are two key factors to this move. Team performance in Old Trafford's first team became a priority after Ratcliffe's INEOS joined. 'The amount expected to be reduced in the future is expected to reach tens of millions of dollars and the money will be invested in coach Erik ten Hag's squad.'"

Layoffs were also an inevitable option to comply with the current rules of profitability and sustainability, which are the rules that many clubs are most concerned about. As of June last year, Manchester United had as many as 1,112 employees.

Since it is the most popular club in the English Premier League (EPL), it may have the most employees, but it was undeniable that it was vast compared to other big clubs. Liverpool had 1,005, Tottenham had 719, Arsenal had 649, and Manchester City had 520 staff.

The decision to lay off 250 people was made after too many employees delayed decision-making and judged that labor costs had reached an unaffordable level.

Since Alex Ferguson's departure, Manchester United has shown funding power comparable to oil money clubs such as Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), but it is known that there is not much funds left. The amount of money that can be used purely as a transfer fee this summer is also known to be around 50 million pounds (about 88.3 billion won).

£50 million is the money that ends when you buy one main-level resource. It is expected that the company will actively use it to invest in the team with the money that will also generate employee layoffs. Matthijs de Licht is most likely to be United's first recruit this summer.

Currently, Manchester United is also negotiating with De Ligt's side. De Licht is also seeking a reunion with his teacher, Ten Hag. If the transfer fee negotiations between Manchester United and Bayern proceed quickly, the transfer is expected to be completed. Bayern reportedly want 42.5 million pounds (about 75 billion won) for De Ligt's transfer.
