Co-hosted by the Jemin Ilbo and the Korea Football Association and organized by the Jeju Provincial Football Association, the 「32nd Baekrokgi National High School Football Competition" will be held for 15 days in Seogwipo City from the 20th to the 3rd of next month. In this competition, a total of 36 teams will compete for the top. Twenty-eight teams will compete in the 2024 Baekrokgi High School U-17 Soccer Youth Cup.
Baekrokgi is considered one of the top competitions in terms of infrastructure-performance-view enthusiasm, and is also called the "Sansil of Star Exploration" as a flash of soccer talent is born in each competition. Among the new stars that passed through the Baeknokgi, one of the most sparkling stars is Koo Ja-cheol. For Koo Ja-cheol, the Baeknokgi is like fate.
Koo Ja-cheol played for three consecutive years in high school from the 12th to the 14th Baekrokgi competition. In particular, he participated in the 14th Baekrokgi Competition in 2006 and attracted a lot of attention by leading his alma mater, Boyne High School, to the runner-up. Former Jeju coach Jung Hae-sung, who watched the final of the tournament at the time, highly evaluated Koo Ja-cheol's potential and called Koo Ja-cheol's name as the third-ranked rookie draft in the K League the following year.
As such, Koo Ja-cheol's affection and interest in Baekrokgi are different. The sincerity is also contained in 'Hallasan Baekrokdam Clothes Official', which drew great attention when returning to Jeju in 2022. It is rumored that Koo Ja-cheol wanted to convey the meaning that the promising Baekrokgi competition became the best star in Jeju. Koo Ja-cheol's dream in Baeknokgi is now a new dream.
Koo Ja-cheol will invite all 36 team players to the stadium for the big match against Ulsan at 7:30 p.m. on the 26th at Jeju World Cup Stadium. In particular, as the Baekrokgi final will be held at Jeju World Cup Stadium, Jeju's home stadium, on the 3rd of next month, Koo Ja-cheol's goodwill is expected to spread to strong motivation for the participants.
Koo Ja-cheol said, "Baekrokgi was a precious stage that changed the fate of my soccer life. As I did, I hope my juniors will show off their skills in Baekrokgi without regret. I hope the participants will develop their dreams to the fullest at the Jeju World Cup Stadium, where the final of the tournament will be held. In the future, I will work harder to become a player who can always bring joy and happiness to everyone along with the spread of the sharing culture."
