Yang Hyun-jong made his 400th start in an away game against the LG Twins in Jamsil on the 10th, and the record was recognized as the regular game was established after five innings.
Yang Hyun-jong made 500 appearances against the Daegu Samsung Lions on the 4th, the previous appearance, and set a new record of his 400th start in the next game.
Yang Hyun-jong, who graduated from Dongseong High School in Gwangju and joined KIA as the No. 1 player in the second round in 2007, has been in charge of one of the pillars of KIA's selection, starting with six starts that year. From 2014 to last year, he showed off his consistency by starting around 30 games every season, and from 2015 to 2017, he started 31 games in three consecutive seasons and played a role as a team ace.
Yang Hyun-jong caught Austin, the leadoff hitter, with a straight hit in the bottom of the fourth inning and pitched his 100th inning this season, also achieving the record of 100 innings for the third consecutive 11 seasons in KBO league history.
Unfortunately, however, he failed to win on the day he achieved the milestone.
Yang Hyun-jong pitched six hits (one homer) with no four outs, three strikeouts, and one run in five innings. Yang Hyun-jong, who sprayed 87 balls, effectively overpowered LG's batters with 35 fastballs of up to 148 kilometers, 38 sliders of 139 kilometers, and 14 changeups of 132 kilometers. However, he was replaced by Lim Ki-young in the bottom of the sixth inning, trailing 0-1 due to lack of help from the batters, and was on the verge of losing.
It was regrettable that Moon Bo-kyung, the leader, was allowed a solo shot in the bottom of the second inning. KIA's batting line, which had been on fire the previous day with 17 hits, scored 11 points and was blocked by the opponent's starter Detrick N.S.
