The British newspaper `The Sun' reported on the 20th (Korea Standard Time) that after a year of investigation, the Brazilian police found no evidence that Antony committed illegal activities.
Antony's ex-girlfriend launched a police investigation in Sao Paulo and Manchester, Brazil, revealing that she was assaulted at a hotel in Manchester, England, in January last year. He is said to be still under investigation in the UK but has not been charged. Antony strongly denied all allegations against him in September last year.
In a Brazilian broadcast, he tearfully insisted on his innocence. He `knows the truth, and it will soon be revealed. It is my dream every day to try to achieve my dream and to be a member of the national team. I never assaulted him.'
Antony decided not to join the team training after discussions with Ten Hach. He said "I agreed to leave for a while to settle allegations against the Manchester United club"This is a mutual decision to avoid distractions to team members and avoid unnecessary controversy over the club."
And "I will reiterate my innocence of the charges and actively cooperate with the police so that the truth can be revealed. I look forward to returning to the game as soon as possible," he stressed.
Antony moved from Ajax to Manchester United for a transfer fee of 100 million euros (about 148 billion won) in the summer of 2022 when coach Ten Haach took the helm of Manchester United. But it was the epitome of `eat and run.'
Antony played in 25 matches in the English Premier League (EPL) in the 2022-2023 season and scored only four goals. It crashed further last season. He returned after breaking through 'domestic violence' but scored only one goal in 29 EPL matches.
"Obviously I'm not happy with my season, but a lot has happened in my personal life," Antony said after the end of last season. "Like it or not, everything I've been through has affected the stadium. Certainly, everything I've been through has been very hard for both me and my family," he lamented.
Antony was called out in the first round against Fulham despite the start of the new season.
