'Korea Women's Taekwondo Sign' Lee Da-bin (27, Seoul Metropolitan Government) advanced to the semifinals after a great fight for revenge.

Lee Da-bin defeated China's Zhou Ziqi with a round score of 2-1 (4-23-87-6) in the quarterfinals of the women's 67kg excess Taekwondo at the 2024 Paris Olympics held at Grand Palais in Paris, France on the 10th (Korea time). Lee Da-bin, who won a silver medal at the previous Tokyo Games, made a strong step toward the gold medal by reaching the semifinals. If Lee wins the gold medal in this competition, he will achieve the career Grand Slam. Lee Da-bin won the gold medal at the 2014 Incheon Asian Games (62kg class) and the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Games (67kg excess class) when he was a high school student. He also topped the 73kg class at the 2019 Manchester World Championship and the 2016 Manila Asian Championship.

Lee Da-bin has a bad relationship with Zhou Ziqi. Zhou Ziqi is ranked 10th in the World Taekwondo Federation (WT) Olympic competition rankings and gave Lee Da-bin (4th) the pain of losing the final at the Hangzhou Asian Games last year.

It was not an easy game as expected. Lee Da-bin, who hit the torso with his fist against Zhou Ziqi and then hit the head to make it 4-0 about a minute before the end of the first round, often changed his posture and confused his opponent, and eventually succeeded in keeping the first round 4-2. However, in the second round, Zhou was beaten three consecutive hits in head-body-body, and he lost eight points by one point. Lee Da-bin also hit Zhou Zedong's head, but there was no other effective hit, so the second round was lost 3-8.

In the third round of fate, a thrilling reversal of Lee Da-bin unfolded. Lee Da-bin's composure stood out with a 2-6 deficit before the end of the game. Lee Da-bin, who followed 5-6 with a head attack 17 seconds before the end, induced Zhou's deduction twice in a fierce kicking battle, winning the third round 7-6 and becoming the final winner.

Lee Da-bin defeated Petra Stolbova of the Czech Republic 2-0 (4-4 3-2) in the previous round of 16. In the first round, Lee Da-bin took a 3-0 lead with a successful head attack. After that, he lost a point by deducting points, but he opened the score by successfully attacking with his fist. It was tied 4-4, allowing a head attack. The video review allowed him to score. He seemed to take the lead with a deduction, but the video review canceled it and finished the first round 4-4. The tie-breaking round determines the winner in the order of players with more points won by rotation, players with more points in the order of head-body-fist-deductible points, and players with more effective hitting of electronic pitches. According to this standard, Lee Da-bin won the first round.

Lee Da-bin, who overcame the crisis, was dragged 0-2 with a body kick attack in the second round, but succeeded three consecutive body fist attacks to win the upset victory.

Lee Da-bin is the last Korean taekwondo athlete to compete in the Paris Olympics. Korean Taekwondo, which succeeded in exceeding its goal by winning gold medals in the men's 58kg class on the 7th and Kim Yu-jin (Ulsan Sports Council) in the women's 57kg class on the 8th, dreams of success with Lee Da-bin's gold medal.
